Mentored by interior designer Andrew Durham, actress and model Gemma Atkinson worked with Teenage Cancer Trust and Arighi Bianchi to design a stylish room which will form the basis of a
suite for teenage cancer patients at Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit at The Christie Hospital in Manchester. The judges felt that this room set had created and exceeded its own brief. Judge Nigel Scott said: “It was beautifully considered and executed.”

Gemma said: “I designed the room set for the Home & Garden show along with Arighi Bianchi – I was delighted when it won an award as it was a very special project for me. The design will be used as the basis for a chill out room at Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit at Christies Hospital in Manchester. It was really important that I spoke to teenagers about my ideas before the show so I could check they were along the right lines! I went to Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit in London to show some teenagers there what I’d come up with and got the thumbs up! They really liked the bright colours and the textiles that I’d chosen.”
